For years I've been harping on about the short-lived "Dracula" ice cream bar from the 70s. As I recall they were a purple (grape?) popsicle shell, vanilla ice cream filling and a red jelly type of centre. I only remember having them a couple of times and then they disappeared. Whenever I'd get into one of those "do you remember..."/"whatever happened to..." conversations I'd mention them but no one else could recall them. I was starting to think I'd invented the things!
Not anymore.
As it turns out, they were actually called "Count Dracula's Secret". Whodda thought?
Thank you Paul from the Cob Webbed Room, David from the Do You Remember forum for the picture and to Christian, Lawrence and Karyn for helping me finally track it down!

ReplyDeleteI'm quite sure I had at least one of these in my childhood. But oddly enough, I don't recall the packaging looking like that. I recall a more kid-friendly, cartoonish looking Dracula on the package. Who knows...maybe I am totally imagining this in my head (the packaging, that is. I'm quite certain I did eat the "lolly" at one point or another). :)
ReplyDeleteThis packaging is British, so maybe we had a different version here. (Maybe even a differnt brand?) I don't recall the wrapper looking quite like this either but I really couldn't say for sure. The description, however, sounds exactly like it the same ice cream.
ReplyDeleteThere is a garlic flavoured ice cream that is also named Dracula. I cannot imagine that tasting good.

ReplyDeleteth jelly was the best bit....
ReplyDeleteI remember this ice cream bar also from the 70's. I grew up in Northern Ireland and can still remember walking into the shop/store and my friend and I finding this ice cream and thinking it looked really freaky enough to eat. I liked it also and do remember that I was only able to get it a few times before it disappeared.
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY had these as a kid too.. grape with vanilla and red inside.... and NO ONE ive asked knows what im talking about lol
